Giff

Giff are tall, broad-shouldered folk with hippo-like features. Some have smooth skin, while others have short bristles on their faces and the tops of their heads. As beings of impressive size and unforgettable appearance, giff always stand out in a crowd. Originating from Owana, giff are one of the many bestial folk that trace their lineage to the First Home continent. As with many of the animalistic races of Owana, there are many theories and legends about the origin of the giff. The most commonly shared and believed among the giff is that Ilmater, God of Endurance, looked upon their ancestors and was pleased by their stamina and indomitable spirit. One day, the ancestors of the giff began being hunted by dwarves armed with weapons crafted by Moradin, the dwarf God of Creation. Despite their thick hides and stalwart defense, the ancestors stood no chance against the weapons. Ilmater found this fight unfair, and so blessed the giff with sentience and a gift for a never before seen weapon that belched fire from a distance. Today, the giff hold the production of these weapons as a closely guarded and nearly religious secret.
