Fort McRae
The 1st California Volunteer Infantry built Fort McRae in 1863 between Elephant Butte and the Rio Grande. Like Fort Seldon and Fort Craig, it protects the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, the Royal Road of the Interior, between El Paso and Santa Fe.
