Fort Selden

Fort Selden is the southernmost of the three forts on the Rio Grande that protect El Camino Real, the trail that has connected Mexico City to Santa Fe for hundreds of years. Once used by friars and conquistadors, it's now more commonly traveled by settlers and freight lines. The path still remains dangerous and Fort Selden also marks the southern end of the Jordada del Muerto (Journey of the Dead Man). This is a ninety-mile stretch with no water, fodder, or firewood.
