The law exists to protect the public from those who would put their own enrichment above the common good. A special kind of person is needed to bring criminals to justice. They must be brave, dedicated, and most of all, honest.

You end up having to spend a lot of time in saloons watching suspects. Gain +1 Gambling.

You spend a lot of time dealing with non-English speakers. Gain +1 in a Language.

An article is written about you in a big city newspaper. Gain +1 REP.

You capture an infamous criminal. You are automatically promoted.

An investigation leads you to one of the native communities. Gain +1 Liaison and a Ally in that community.
 

Mishaps

If a mishap occurs, the term ends before completion. Do not roll for an end of term benefit or cash. Roll 1D /2 to determine how many years the term lasted.

A criminal you jailed returns and ambushes you. Roll on the Injury Table and gain an Enemy.

You arrested the son of a powerful person in the area. They had you removed from your position. Lose the Benefit Roll for this term.

Severely Injured. Roll twice on the Injury Table and take the lower result.
