A trip to the outhouse on a dark night in Arizona presents the opportunity to fall into a mine that someone has dug since your last visit. While there are times when it feels like every acre of land has a mine dug into it, most of these are small operations, with only a handful of people trying to strike it rich. Only a few mines are large enough to support significant operations for long enough to justify dozens or even hundreds of miners.
