Quokka S.T.A.M.P.D Festival

Every year I visit Quokka during S.T.A.M.P.D to find inspiration for my shop and gifts for my best friend in Margay. There is so much to see and do, it is worth the long trip up into the mountains. Time to get Stampd!!! -Frizlina of Margay
Annually, when the days are their longest, all the citizens of Quokka come together to enjoy the week long S.T.A.M.P.D festival. The Fine Arts district is filled with tents, wagons, booths, and make shift stages while the smell of outdoor cooking fills the air. The local Inns fill with visitors from all over Huggleland and put up makeshift lodging in the surrounding areas usually kept empty for celebrations. The excitement, creativity, and inspiration is so contagious that even those with no interest in the arts feel like they can create a masterpiece.

Getting S.T.A.M.P.D

S.T.A.M.P.D represents "Sculpture," "Theatre," "Architecture," "Music," "Poetry and Painting," and "Drawing and Dance." During the festival, the Fine Arts district hosts a variety of performances, classes, and entertainment all day and night. Citizens are encouraged to participate in their preferred creative outlet and learn new techniques. Members of the Agriculture district, bake and cook up delicious food and offer fresh produce. Those who are not citizens of Quokka must pay for classes, food, and any supplies they wish to use, while citizens receive everything for free. Everyone is encouraged to have as much fun as possible and exchange ideas all week long. During the week, members of the council evaluate the various outlets and projects and give out a variety of prizes, from currency, to titles, and special privileges. They also use the festival to find any previously undiscovered talent that may call for an individual to need a correction ceremony into the Fine Arts Guild. Often, envoys from the royal family come to commission specific projects to take back with them or even scout out artisans to bring back to the capital city for employ. It is considered an incredibly high honor to be asked to become an artisan to the crown. During the festival, any crimes carried out will lead to being detained immediately however, punishments are not carried out until after the festival is over.

How it Came to Be

An important part of maintaining balance in Quokka, has always been to help its citizens to be "well rounded." Citizens have always been expected to have knowledge and experience in multiple areas of expertise including the Fine Arts. As the town grew, it became more challenging to have every citizen participate in every possible trade and field. With the creation of Quokka's guild's, the council decided to dedicate, the longest day of the year, and eventually an entire week, to the Fine Arts. This week allowed citizens from the other guilds to experience and practice the Fine Arts without being overwhelmed or taking away from their own craft. During its inception, the festival was only open to the citizens of Quokka. The gates would be closed to all outsiders during the week long process, inadvertently cutting the two parts of the Holoholona region off from each other during that time. Every part of the festival was free and all other education, business, and pursuits were put on hold during it. Eventually, as the city turned into the region's capital, the festival was opened to all of Huggleland and essential businesses were kept open to support the influx of insiders. Today, there are more visitors than there are available beds in the city, leading to the need for temporary lodging and visitors camping outside of the city itself.

Special Rules for Outsiders

While outsiders are now welcome to the festival, they do have different rules than the citizens of Quokka. Any outsider that breaks these rules will be detained and run the risk of being banned from future festivals or from visiting Quokka all together. Festival rules are posted all over the city. Any citizens that break rules will have their name and guild published in the Squeaking Quokka.
