Vadania Siannodel

(a.k.a. Dania, Dani, V)

I'll retire my viol when I retire living.
V adania is a young Half-Elf living in the small village of Margay with a local couple Englebertha and Mervin Girdz. Mervin is a fisherman and his wife, Englebertha runs the village tavern. Vadania earns her keep by helping at the tavern and providing entertainment for the villagers after a long day. She is skilled with many instruments but her favorite is the Viol and her own voice. Some of the villagers swear that when she sings or plays the viol they can feel some sort of magic.

Family

Vadania entered this world on a cool summer night to a Human father and an Elven mother. Her Father was a well respected merchant named Bridan Aldasi. He raised Vadania along side her older Half-Sister Efsun Aldasi. Vadania doesn't remember her mother, but memorized everything her father told her about his "enchanted love." Vadania was told her mother was a beautiful dancer with a singing voice said to be unrivaled among all the Flora Elf. Her name was Yunasea Siannodel. Vadania has her mother's eyes and love for all forms of Music. Her Half-Sister, a human like thier father, always accepted and protected Vadania, or V as she called her, from those who would look down on her for her Elven heritage.

Vadania's Story (thus far)

Growing up Vadania spent most of her time in her families small garden singing, dancing, or playing her precious viol. Her father, unable to stay with her mother, raised her along with his daughter from his first wife who died in a tragic accident. Despite loosing a wife and the woman he called his "enchanted love," Vadania's father always smiled when with his children. He tried to give them a comfortable life using his income and status as a respected member of Quokka's merchant guild and trusted tradesman of the royal family. Vadania and her sister went to school with other merchant's children where they were educated in both societal and intellectual subjects. Although her beauty grew everyday so did a looming cloud from the humans around her. Vadania tried hard to give them no reason to distrust her but her lilac eyes, pointed ears, and slowed aging given to her by her mother, she could not hide her heritage.   One evening when she was about 10 years old, she heard one of her father's oldest friends arguing with him in a nearby room. Her father's friend insisted she be sent away, back to her mother. Her father cursed him and revealed that her mother died shortly after Vadania's birth, but he didn't have the heart to tell her. Faced with the reality of her mother's death, Vadania snuck away to find a place to grieve. As Vadania made her way to a nearby river it started to rain. Despite her elven eyes helping her see, her tears she caused her to misstep on unstable ground as she neared the river. Vadania slipped on the wet ground and fell into the river, hitting her head and knocking her unconscious. Vadania had a brief moment to think "mom, help me" before her world went black. Unknown to her, another troubled child, a young human boy, was sitting by the river letting himself soak in the cold rain. Looking out he saw Vadania's lifeless form floating down the river and immediately jumped in to save her. Once he got her to shore he saw she was still breathing barely and recognized her as one of the merchant's daughters. As he headed back into town toward the town center he heard a male voice and a young girl's voice calling out for Vadania. He decided to gently lay her down against a nearby tree, stared at her as if memorizing her face and left her to be found. Moments later, her father and sister found her and rushed her home.   After nearly loosing his daughter, Bridan decided to bring private tutors to Vadania and keep her at home or by his side at all times to protect her. She enjoyed her trips with her father to the castle and always marveled at the beautiful art throughout. Despite no longer going to school, she was still happy as her closest companion, her sister, was always there for her when she began to feel lonely. Vadania, did not know it at the time, but while she was out with her father he was hoping to help secure her future even more. He introduced her to many nobles, merchants, and ambassadors whenever he had a chance, often asking her "What do you think Dania? What if you had a life like that?" She always smiled at her father thinking he was worried she would leave him and replied "I only want my life with you and Efsun father." She didn't want to break her father's heart and was willing to sacrifice for his happiness after so much pain.   The day of Efsun's 16th birthday was a beautiful day in the middle of winter. Despite the cold, the sun was shining and the fresh snow looked like powdered sugar. Vadania was helped her sister get dressed and ready for full day of celebration. Efsun smiled in the mirror while Vadania brushed her sisters, long golden locks. Efsun looked at her sister and sighed as she began to talk about her hopes for the day. In their town when a girl of their status turned 16 their parents, or in this case their father, would bring in suitors and show the whole town what an amazing young woman they had become. Efsun had told her father many times what she hoped for in a future husband and had no doubt he would find someone that met her wishes. "Maybe one of them will catch your eye V! Then you won't have to wait until your 16th birthday to find him!" Vadania, was not as excited as her sister at the thought of being a wife but Efsun's smile and joy were contagious. As the day went by and the evening came suitor after suitor brought Esfun gifts hoping that by night's end, one of them would get to claim her as their own. One man in particular stood out. He was tall, much more tanned than the rest and seemed to have come from far away. He bowed to Efsun when he arrived but when he stood up he saw Vadania and his smile faded. He stared at her for a while with no emotion. Vadania saw his stare and couldn't help but be caught by his emerald green eyes. As soon as he looked away Vadania realized she had forgotten to breathe. Her sister noticed her reaction to the man and winked at her with a smirk. That night Efsun and her family went to the center of town where a sort of outdoor ball was set up and announced she had chosen a local merchant's son name Fiaro as he groom. After everyone cheered. The two merchants went off to talk marriage and the combining of families while the rest of the party attendees ate, drank, and danced. Vadania looked for a quiet corner when Efsun walked up with the tall handsome man from before. She introduced him to Vadania by the name of Somintu. He smiled at Vadania and asked her to dance. They danced all night long and when the party was over he gave her a tender kiss on the cheek and left without another word.   A year later and Efsun was married to Fiaro and expecting their first child. Bridan was excited at the thought of a grandchild and adored his son-in-law. "Dania, the man you marry will be just as amazing. Only the best for my girls" Her father said this all the time ever since Efsun and Fiaro became one. Vadania, however would always sigh as she could only picture 2 people as possible suitors. One was the man called Somintu whom she had no idea where he went, and the other was a stranger. A stranger she only has blurry memories of. A boy who saved her from the River 5 years earlier. She remembered his kind face and his sad eyes and how careful he was holding her. Despite looking younger than her, he was strong and she felt safe in the strangers arms. Vadania resigned herself to a fate of marrying someone that made her father happy and not one of the only two males in her life that made her heart flutter.   Bridan fell ill the same day his first grandchild was born. It was a bizarre mix of emotions as everyone wanted to celebrate the new life but were worried about the family patriarch. Vadania stayed by his side taking care of him for weeks despite his protest. One evening he was especially week and called out to his daughters and son-in law. As they looked at him with concern he reached into his bed-stand and pulled out a simple leather pouch and handed it to Vadania. "My sweet Dania," he said; "In this pouch is the only thing of your mother's besides your self that I have. Please wear it always. Never take it off never let another have it." Vadania opened the pouch and pulled out a necklace with a pendant in the shape of a red solar eclipse. With tears in her eyes Efsun helped her sister put on the necklace. "Essi my sunshine. Don't cry. Take care of your sister. Fiaro, take care of my daughters and my granddaughters." Vadania and her sister held their father's hand and with a smile he closed his eyes and let his spirit leave his body.   Efsun and Fiaro decided once Bridan's final affairs were taken care of they should proceed with finding Vadania a suitor. She was only 6 months away from her 16th birthday. Preparations were made and soon it was time. Vadania had many suitors despite her "undesirable" background as a half-elf. Her families status and her great beauty drew many people to take a chance on someone normally considered bad luck. But as the suitors came and the gifts came Vadania's fake smile wore around the edges. None of these men made her feel anything and Somintu nor her savior from the river appeared. As she walked to the town center trying to hide her disappointment her sister held her hand and beamed. "This is the best day V! you can't go wrong with any of the suitors that came for your hand!" As she looked at everyone waiting she braced herself to announce her decision when a tender kiss was suddenly placed on her cheek. "I am sorry my flower. I am late. I hope you didn't forget about me." She knew the voice and the touch; it was Somintu. She smiled and held his hand while she announced to everyone she had found her groom. Fiaro and Somintu shook hands and the night was filled with celebration.   As time went on and wedding planning was underway, Somintu visited almost daily and brought many beautiful gifts for his bride. Vadania found herself smiling all the time and growing more and moree excited at the thought of marrying Somintu. A month before her 17th birthday, a week before her wedding day, Vadania was awoken by Fiaro. Fiaro never disrespected Vadania's privacy but he looked fearful. "Danni, wake up and get dressed! Efsun is in the garden you must go to her immediately hurry!" Vadania didn't know what was going on but the urgency in his voice convinced her to listen. She got dressed and rushed to the garden where Efsun was waiting with a large backpack and Vadania's Viol case beside her. "Efsun? What is going on?" Efsun looked at her sister with tears in her eyes glittering in the moonlight. "There is no time V. Take this stuff and run to the stables. I have a horse waiting for you. Ride it far and fast; as far as you can go. Go somewhere quiet and small and never come back." Vadania was scared and wanted to ask more but Efsun continued. "Please V. For your own sake. I put a letter in your backpack explaining everything but for now you must go!"   Vandania did as her sister said and left town. She rode day and night; taking rests only as her horse needed until she reached the town of Margay. When she arrived, a stable girl, named Strawberry came out to help her off her horse just as she slid off her horse and collapsed. Once she recovered and was taken in by a Englebertha and Mervin Girdz, and offered room and board in exchange for working in the local tavern, The Tiny Cat. She has stayed there since.
