Castle Guard
Structure
The Castle Guard used to be under direct command of Princess Zelda, but since her passing, has been under the command of Rainald, Mayor of Castle Town, and other Mayors and Stewards before him.
Public Agenda
When the Guard was first founded, its purpose was to protect the castle and the royal family who lived there. The Guard's main purpose now is to keep the citizens of Castle Town safe.
History
As previously mentioned, the Castle Guard was first founded to protect they Hylian Royal Family. Legends say that at its founding, the Hero of Time, himself was the leader and commander of the Guard. This time period is known within the Guard as a sort of Golden Age of the organization.
Between incarnations, however, the guard fell into disarray, becoming hopeless without their Hero to lead them in the face of incredible, powerful evil. They became known as bumbling cowards, barely knowing which way to hold a spear.
To this day, the Guard's credibility is uncertain. Without a Hero to lead them and without a Princess to protect, most of the duty of the Guard has fallen to volunteers or hired mercenaries, their skills ranging widely from new trainees to seasoned bounty hunters.
Demography and Population
Traditionally, the Guard has been made up mostly of Hylians, with the occasional "Black Ops" squads made up of Shiekah. Today, while it's still mostly Hylians and Shiekah, a handful of Twili have volunteered to take up night watches, as they function much better in the darkness than Hylians do.
Currently, the Guards are about 250 men strong, and looking for volunteers, should any of the neighboring kingdoms decide to try to lay claim to the ruined Hyrule Castle.
