Short Story: Dragon Egg

After her companions have killed a few dragons, a human woman is kidnapped by an angry dragon to take care of a surviving egg.

World

Dragons are extremely powerful and difficult for humans to kill. They are clever creatures, capable of communicating with humans thanks to magic, but most view humans as little better than animals.
Most sedentary dragons have enslaved nearby human communities or make agreements with them, and the humans have to bring them sacrifices, food and wealth regularly to appease them. In region that are in theory dragon-free, dragons still pass through and stop from time to time when visiting each other.

Some humans have attempted to resist this dragon supremacy. They have develop their own magic, artefacts to enhance this magic, and group techniques to combine their magic and attacks to reach enough strength to be able to take down some weak dragons.
This has led to some uneasy relationships between those human groups and the dragon population. The stronger dragons do not feel threatened by puny humans, but when weaker dragons under their protection are killed, they are forced to retaliate if they do not want to lose face and invite attacks from rival dragons.

Characters

MC

She is one of the crafts masters forging the magical artefacts that are used to kill dragons. She was exceptionally sent with the team of knights that were investigating a dragon sighting at the edge of their kingdom. They found a group of weakened dragons and decided to kill them for their own glory despite her disapproval. During this, she managed to hid a dragon egg.

Dragon

One of the leaders of the dragon. He received a call from a group of weak dragon begging for his protections from rival dragons. By the time he came to join them, they had all been killed by humans. He immediately grilled them in retaliation, but one of the human had protected an egg, and so he decided to keep her around to take care of the egg until it hatches, as his failure to protect the weakened dragon has made him a target for other dragons.
