Submission to World Anvil Worldbuilding Awards 2024

Table of Contents

This is a quick presentations of the articles I've submitted to the World Anvil Worldbuilding Awards 2024 competition that's going on right now and what I like about them.   You can vote for them (with or without a World Anvil account) by going to each article or world and using the widget at the bottom of the screen.

World: Dark Lord Seduction Plan

The world of Dark Lord Seduction Plan is set in a society inspired by 19th century France, with a strong division between the Light and Dark political factions, and a strong focus on magic science and the rune guild.

Most Beautiful World
I submitted this world to both the best World and Most Beautiful World categories, but with the change of rules it has been removed from Best World and is only left in most Beautiful.   In this world, I've put a particular effort in the presentation and formatting of each article, having them all be some in-world documents such as information leaflets from the rune guild, flyers from local governments, or my main character's secret plans to seduce the Dark Lord.   I've also been using a lot of icons and boxes to make each article concise and pretty :D

Rise of Nations
The article I submitted for this category presents an ad for the capital city, Esteille, highlighting why everyone should count themselves lucky to live there nowadays, while "hinting" at its dark past.   I'm very happy with the way I've made this article fun and informative while using a limited in-world POV from the general inhabitants of the city.

World: Empire of the Covenant

In the world of the Empire of the Covenant, nobles are very powerful thanks to a magic that links them to the Land over which they rule.

Hearts and Minds

Worship of Ancestors presents the main religion in this world and explains the link between nobles and their Land and how it's formed by people dying and leaving a trace of themselves behind.   I like this concept a lot, and I'm really happy with how I've explored the impact it has on this world's society.

World: Divine Tyranny

Divine Tyranny is set in a world where gods walk freely among mortals and cause havoc.

Strength and Honour
This article presents an important concept in this world and my main character's profession. Archivists are not only important historian but also political advisors, and they get to know many of the gods' nasty secrets' ...   I'm really happy with the concept of archivists and with the way I'm using an archivist's disabused POV and sarcastic voice to present all the articles in this world.

Myths and Legends
When presenting myths, I always love to draw some kind of fun pictures books with dark themes, and The Tale of the Eldritch Horrors is my favourite so far.   It explains to children why a human sacrifice has to take place in the country every year and tells them why it's actually a good think and that they too should be nice and happy to sacrifice themselves for the gods...

World: Imperial Soulmates

Imperial Soulmates is a futuristics fantasy world with a strong solarpunk influence.

Pillars of Progress
The article I submitted for this presents the basic concept of the solarpunk aspect of this world: the science and reason behind the use of plants as an anchor for magic.   I'm super proud of the magic/science system I came up with for this!

Wondrous Nature
For this category, I submitted an article about the concept of "soulmates" in my world, which is the basis for the plot of the novel, with soulmates being a very scientific and non-romantic concept (in theory at least, in practice people get a little over enthusiastic about the idea XD).   I'm very happy with how I've explored the scientfic aspect of soulmates, as well as all the impacts they've had on society.

World: Challenges of Magical University Life

The world of Challenges of Magical University Life focuses on the everyday life of students at a magical uni.
Best article
This is obviously the article I've written that I'm the most proud of :D Biology of magic use and magical exhaustion presents the science behind the way people use magic in this world, making full use of my PhD in bio-inorganic chemistry and of my skills in making schemas for scientific articles.   I'm very happy with the scientific explanation I've come up with to make this concept work and the way I've managed to explain it, as well as with how I explore the social and cultural impact.
