A dark abyss separates the light of the doorway from the glowing golden light on an island nestled in a far-reaching cavern. Moments are taken to determine the best course of action, even without knowing what lies beyond the reach of the darkness and into the blinding light of the island. Only one of the three
Adventurers can make the journey across the abyss. Only her magic and the strength of her friends allow her to take a leap of faith to the object far ahead.
With a mighty yell from a
Dragonkin, she is airborne, flying across the abyss only to land roughly on the other side. On a stone pedestal rests a magnificent book, its cover enshrouded in a golden light. The symbols of the gods that she knows so well as a
Paladin shine up to meet her, but one symbol she does not know, one symbol that is nothing more than a blemish on an otherwise pristine cover.
The book is swaddled and held to her chest like an infant as she uses her magic to once again join her friends. With a quiet breath, she casts the spell that will tell her what magic this book holds, what secrets may lie beneath its cover. As clear as day, the name of this book finds her, the
Book of Exalted Deeds. A book that holds the truth of the
Pantheons of Isekai and their secrets, but it also holds great power that can be bestowed upon those that are devout enough in their faith.
The
Book of Exalted Deeds is a rare item to find as the book quickly disappears and moves on to its next holder when it has fulfilled its purpose. Those that hold the book can choose to use it in one of two ways, but as soon as that use is taken, the book disappears somewhere else across Isekai. One power from the gods or three lessons about the truth of the world from the god of your choice. Choose wisely, because the power or knowledge granted by the book may not be what you wanted.
History
It is said that the
Book of Exalted Deeds was written by the great
Pantheons of Isekai in order to aid those that worshipped them. In the days before the
Silence of the Gods, the gods and goddesses of Isekai spoke to those that followed them and gave advice, but when they left the world, their influence only remained in the golden book.
What an interesting choice the holder has to make. I'm really not sure which one I would choose. Lovely prose!
