A stack of papers waits on the table, the group’s entrance into the
Dagger Guild. Out of fourteen members, all of them step back and away, leaving the
Paladin at the table alone with the
Nephilim guild leader of the area. Reluctantly, she leans forward, inking her name to the dotted line, naming herself the leader of the
Adamantine Flames, the Pommel of the group for official
Dagger Guild purposes.
The title Pommel is not nearly as grand as many like to think. It is nothing more than a title on paper, used for official
Dagger Guild purposes, as many who hold it would rather not take such an obscure title upon themselves. To many, it is such an odd name that few wish to keep it as one of their many titles, preferring ones like Guild Leader or Party Leader to more aptly describe their role in their individual groups.
The
Dagger Guild had hoped that more of its adventurers would hold the title of Pommel as it has great symbolism attached to it in that the pommel of the dagger is what one sees, even when sheathed, but that hope did not come to fruition. The title is nothing more than something that marks a paper, denoting which member of a party holds the decision-making power according to the guild, not much more.
I love the twist that this is not a title one general seeks out or wants. It's a shame - I really like the symbolism of it.
