Sera was born the daughter of a courtesan in the Fairy King’s Court. This in itself brought a measure of scrutiny that no child would want, but it was even worse if one was a troublemaker. She quickly became friends with children throughout
Silverleaf, but it was soon learned that these children were tricksters, leaning farther into their
Trickster Fairy heritage than was common in the capital city.
These friendships would find Sera in a variety of trouble over her earliest decades. From harmless pranks such as changing the color of lights near someone’s home or knocking on doors and running away, to greater annoyances such as changing street signs, the group caused small instances of chaos, but one such instance would lead to much larger trouble.
No one speaks of the incident that would eventually lead to Sera and most of her group being tossed from the capital and told to never return. While it is known that no one died, the incident caused enough harm to have
Fairies that had barely gotten their wings removed from their homes, but not enough to be brought before
Festival Snix. The whispers that abounded were enough to drive Sera away from the larger
Fairy cities in search of someplace that would not know the trouble that she had caused.
Ten years passed between Sera receiving her wings and her appearance in the
Flowered Hill Coven. It is unknown what she did during this time, but upon her appearance, she was welcomed into the coven as a fledgling
Witch. She threw herself into her studies, embracing the teachings of
Libra and the way of life that these women coveted. Slowly, she learned to care for the
White Lazarus that was central to all that the coven did.
Her years in the coven meant that she took part in the arduous process of
Flower Distilling, the most difficult part of coven life. In some instances, she enjoyed the isolation and the reflection it brought, allowing her to think about how far she had come from a troublemaking child. When the previous
Coven Leader stepped down due to age, Sera never once thought that this isolation and reflection would lead her to her new position.
Libra's choice of a new
Coven Leader for the
Flowered Hill Coven was a simple one. The other
Witches were not surprised, but Sera tried to question the choice early on. She was still repenting for what she had done in her first century, she never thought herself to be worthy of the respect and grace that
Libra had shown in her choice.
Nearly five years on, Sera is still trying to see the truth of
Libra's choice. The words that were thrown at her as a child are still in the back of her mind, yet she leads these women with the grace and respect that
Libra had given to her. She had never once expected to have reached such a place after having been such a blight before.
I love this. I am glad she has had a chance to find her way after her misguided youth. I really wonder what they all did that was so bad it got them sent away.
