A language that is seldom heard in areas of conflict because the folk that speaks it are more at home in peaceful areas with wide fields, well-tended trees, and small towns. Speakers of this language are commonly
Mauskin, though due to geography
Humans,
Halflings,
Lutrines and
Elves are also common speakers. The script for this language uses whimsical characters and strokes that are reminiscent of small branches or stalks of grass, the extra offshoots from a given stroke are made by twisting and pressing down with a brush or a pen during the act of writing.
This is a fairly recent language and is tied directly to the appearance of
Mauskin as a race though there are some shared attributes with
Ottertian that would give cause for them to be related; however, the similarities seem to be limited to shared sounds used in the vocal component. The Squeakan language uses small squeaks, humming sounds, and clicks but they are notably soft in execution and seemed to be paired with specific forms of body language like twitches of the whiskers and tail positioning. Despite this, the language seems to be understood well enough by speakers that do not have tails or whiskers. The script for this language is considered beautiful but in a way that is very whimsical and suited only for the decoration of jewelry or artwork rather than architecture or magical items in most cases. This language has a large presence throughout the
Little Greenwood and appears to be scattered about the world though often being popular in peaceful places that are more suited for the quiet lives of
Mauskin.
The advantages of speaking Squeakan vary depending on how much time you intend to spend in peaceful parts of the world, while it is an endearing language it is not often used in formal trade, ancient texts, or on magical objects. The language can see some use from the perspective of a
Bard for poems and storytelling in much the same way that the
Ottertian language does but the natural speakers of this language appear to be less prominent in areas of Isekai that are prone to strife. The disadvantages of speaking this language manifest when a
Feline hears the language, something about the pitch or meter of the language seems to put
Felines in a foul or irritated mood and the same can be said for any large feline species that hear this language.
I love the Mauskin and I love how whimsical their language is.
