Dragons
Dragons are a special family of reptiles that are found on very few planets, but are the most populous reptile family on the planet. Our cultures and civilisations revolve around dragons. We build defences, stables, dragonpads, all because we choose to either fear or embrace dragons.
There are eight dragon elements. We use elements to distinguish classes of dragons, based on their appearance, personalities and behaviours and feeding habits. Of course there are exceptions but this is generally how we categorise them. Some dragons will have a double element-typing. These dragons, simply referred to as double-element dragons, display features of multiple elements, such as night lights, a light/fire dragon.
Elements
Earth
The most well known dragon element, earth dragons are characterised by their rock-like personalities and appearances. Earth dragons are on the bulkier side, are usually duller in colouration and are territorial. Some even require rocks, stone, and lava in their diets, like the Quaker, the legendary Earth dragon.Water
Water dragons are usually the ones to inhabit the oceans of Dracosei. Water dragons are one of my favourites, as they look vastly different to most other dragons. Water dragons are skilled hunters, able to swim at incredible speeds, and camouflage well with their environments.Light
Light dragons are some of the rarest and most powerful dragons on the planet. They are seen as holy by some, and are worshipped in various cultures. Most light dragons have no form of fire, and much prefer fleeing instead of fighting. Light dragons are commonly found in colder environments.Ice
Ice dragons are another rare element. Ice dragons are usually white or purple, breathe pure ice or boiling water, and live in cold/frozen environments. There are thousands of them around Maerkhor, also known as the Frozen Continent.Fire
Fire dragons are another very well known dragon element. Fire dragons are characterised by their extremely hot and powerful fires, which differ them from other fire-breathing dragons under other elements. Fire dragons are often very colourful, too, mostly with reds, oranges and purples.Lightning
Lightning dragons are a rarer variety. They are one of the more aggressive elements, and are seldom seen on land. Lightning dragons are able to store electrical energy in their bodies and expel it in different ways, such as out of their mouths or out the ends of their tails. They are exceptionally fast as well.Nature
Nature is the most recent element to be named. Previously, nature dragons were just identified as earth dragons, but since there are so many they deserved their own category. Nature dragons are usually green in colour, live in forested environments, and are sometimes herbivorous.Air
Air dragons are a common dragon species. They are on the larger side, with magnificently large wings. Air dragons almost never leave the air to land on the ground, some even remaining their entire lives in the sky, giving birth in the clouds.Legendary Dragons
Legendary dragons are an incredibly rare group of dragons. Each element has one legendary dragon species aside from the Ice element with two. Legendary dragons distinguish themselves from other dragons by their immense size and power.
Each legendary dragon species are all a singular family line.. Each legendary dragon is genderless, laying one egg in its entire lifetime. This dragon will hatch as soon as the parent dies, replacing it as the resident legendary dragon. Legendary dragons cannot die, other than old age. If it is injured it will resort to forming a protective cocoon - this cocoon cannot be broken, and will not open until the dragon grows stronger than it was before.
Dragon Taming
Dragon taming is not as difficult as one might expect. Even I've managed to tame a few dragons, that live on my own personal island and come on adventures with me sometimes. Some dragon species are much easier to tame than others, and have been domesticated for many hundreds of years, but some you wouldn't even dream of taming.
The Royal Dragon Tamer is a special rank given to those with over a hundred dragons officially tamed, which is where you have a license for a particular dragon. With a hundred licenses for different dragons, you can head to your nearest dragon municipal and apply for a royal dragon tamer rank. The other way of getting a royal dragon tamer rank is by first obtaining a competence license. Competence licenses suggest you are, well, competent, suggesting that you are able to handle yourself around a variety of dragons.
Dragon Hunting
While dragon taming is popular, dragon hunting is just as popular. If you couldn't guess, dragon hunting is where you hunt a dragon. I am absolutely disgusted by those who hunt dragons, as they believe dragons are monsters and that they are a threat to everybody. Yes, dragons are dangerous, but they are only dangerous if you get in their way.
Hunters have driven tons of dragon species to extinction, such as skelerents. The hunters that killed off the skelerent species still flaunt their successes, and have rubbed it in my face ever since they found out I hate them.
I somewhat understand the hunting of certain species that may be considered pests, or if their populations got too out of hand. Like when the population of irondarts on the Sandstone Isles reached the tens of millions, something had to be done. They're not even supposed to be on the island, they live in much warmer places. I agree with the culling of irondarts on the Sandstone Isles, but there aren't many more cases where I am all for dragon hunting.
