Windstalk Species in Jerna's Diary | World Anvil

Windstalk

One of the more common plants in the Fairy Forest on the Kazaharo Cliffs, windstalks are a notorious plant. They are silent killers, not of people, but of other plants. They are one of the most famous parasitic plants on the planet, and anyone who finds one is encouraged to kill it, even in their native habitats.

Anatomy

If windstalks weren't such awful plants I might find them cute. I'm not sure if they qualify as flowers or not since they have no petals, and their entire "body" are seeds with little hair on them that I like to call wings. The seeds and hairs are a dark greenish colour, in contrast to the light green stalks. These stalks are very thin and easily rippable, which makes them annoying to exterminate because the roots are left in the ground and they just regrow.

Windstalks grow to about 3 feet at most. Most people, when they come across these plants, stamp the shit out of them to try and kill them, but it's generally ineffective since they are great at growing back.

Parisitism

An infamous plant with the Glazed Worshippers, these plants spread their seeds across the lands, killing any plant they land on. The seeds usually target large trees, especially teardrop trees, by embedding their sharp seeds into the trunks and literally sapping the life out of them.

Windstalk seeds are frequently found embedded in teardrop tree trunks, and people are encouraged to rip them out as soon as they are spotted. Luckily, the seeds can be nice snacks if you snap the sharp ends off. Whenever I'm on the island, I like to go to the fairy forest for a bit and bring a little basket to collect some seeds. Not only am I collecting snack material, I'm helping the environment, so win-win.
