Aspis Gauntlet
The shield of the Spartan, now seen only in members of the Areosides or the Mora. In appearance, the Aspis has two forms.
One, as a gauntlet of bronze-coloured metal fitted to the forearm.
Two, as a dished round shield which covers from chin to thigh and functions perfectly within the Phalanx.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The Aspis is crafted with...
"ACHEM. Another word written in you and I will rip every one of your pages and feed them gleefully to my volcano."... the proprietary technological expertise of Hephaestus, Olympian of the Forge, and a complete and utter secret to any other than the Forge God himself. I can but say this is a technological, and not magical marvel and thus capable for the followers of Ares to wear and use in Midgard.Hephaestus

History
Modelled after the Spartan aspis, or round and deeply dished shield, the Aspis of Kopis Industries is an expanding shield mounted to a gauntlet worn on the Hoplite's armour.
Significance
The signet of a Spartan, one's aspis is the most important piece of kit in their panoply. They can lose anything, even break their Kopis-blade, but no Hoplite will part with their shield without the brisk cacophony of death ridding them of it.
With this, or upon it.
