Mythic Nexus Points
Mystically Amplifying Objects or Locales
Locations or objects act as nexus points, amplifying mythic resonance and enabling a more potent connection between Realms.
A Nexus Point can connect multiple Realms at once, depending on what act created it.
A Nexus Point is a rip in the veil connecting the Realms to the Axis Mundi. In the cosmic tapestry, Mythic Nexus Points stand as pivotal intersections where diverse Realms converge. These points, hidden in plain sight across the multiverse, hold immense power, often echoing with the resonance of their initial intention. These locations act as gateways, places of healing or heartache, oracles, recharging stations for Realm-aligned deities or Folk, or hallowed graves.
Mystic Folk and mystically atuned Humans can sense a Nexus Point, often seeing shimmers of light or shadow, depending on the nature of the energy which forced it into being.
One hopes, falsely, but the hope still exists, that all Nexus Points be analgesic or places of love and delight. Temples and healing pools. Due to The Mystic War, this is nowhere near the case for Midgard, and one of the most substantial reasons for instituting a Judge.
While love, compassion and grace are capable fuels to create a Nexus, pain is a far easier consumed fuel.
Discovery
The First Emanations of the Creatrix, Aphrodite Venus Ourania, Makosh and the trickster Fae known today as Finnegan discovered the original Nexus Point connecting their three strings to the space carved out of Ginnungagap we now call the Axis Mundi. It was their mutual excitement, destiny and adoration for the Creatrix and each other which begat it, united by a shared curiosity. Within a blink, The Spheres attached, another of the Creatrix's first attempts at cosmic genesis.
Love, Destiny and Nature itself begat the process of connection. This was the Creatrix's promise, through her First Emanations to bring harmony to her design.
Soon, other Nexus Points began to appear, as did other emanations, deities and Realms. Each one held its challenges to use, until the first prehistoric Human prayers began to filter through from the Nexus known as The Hallowes. The Human Realm of Midgard became the central point where Nexus appear, due to humanity's welcoming nature.
Throughout the Mystic War, Nexus were created in battles across Midgard and a few other Realms, when dire sacrifices, strong magic or divine death occurred.
Manifestation
The Nexus Points materialize as ephemeral phenomena, pulsating with a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues. The energies intertwine like intricate tapestries, creating an ethereal aura that dances with the echoes of realms and spiritual experience.
To the mystically inclined Humans or Mystic Folk, they appear as clouds and colours, sensations on the back of the neck, miraculous places where the divine is overwhelmingly close, or a story unheard pressing at the centre of the heart. To those incapable of magic, they are the eery senses of ghosts, or deja vu, and nothing more than 'getting the wiggins' from walking into ye olde shoppe across the village, where that one taxidermy thing creeps out the local kids.
Localization
While Nexus objects are by no means stationary, those Nexus created and attached to places remain stable until resolved. Few are kept open indefinitely aside from ambassadorial holy sites like the Aphneion, The Hallowes or Dur-an-ki. Ones which remain useful and innocuous, or too painful to heal without the massive efforts of Caleb Mauthisen and the Realms which formed them are left until a Truce decision can be made.
It takes rather a long time to heal a Nexus, longer than the Human lifespan allows. Humanity decides to venerate a specific spot as sacred, or a memorial to a historical event in less than a generation. When that veneration happens, is it a communal allowance from a branch of Humanity asking for it to stay? Is it right for outside Realms to make that decision for Midgard, especially when as of 2017, Midgard has no Pantheon of their own, aside from the appointed Judge born to Midgard and raised specifically for Midgard's protection and benefit. Worthy thoughts for sites either sacred or profane.
