Dragon and Diety War
Among the Nethen there are stories of a war tens of thousands of years ago between the massive dragons that populated Karenth and the gods who built the world. This is known as the Dragon and Deity War.
The dragons were one of the first creations of the gods after some of the landmasses and the plane itself. They wanted mounts who were smart, strong, and large enough to carry their avatars through space and across vast distances. The dragons allowed this to happen for a while but as they became stronger and smarter they realized that they should replace their overlords.
The gods on the other hand were strong, but were obsessed with creation and the studying of their new world. They did not pay attention to the dragons as they should have, and for that the dragons resented the gods.
Eventually many of the dragons got together and confronted the first god they came upon. The god was defeated easily as he was not prepared to fight a dozen or more dragons at once. This increased the confidence of the dragons and they attacked a few more gods, whom they defeated with few losses of their own. Soon after the rest of the gods and dragons got involved in an all out war that stretched the length of the plane and high in the heavens.
One such story was the battle between the god of fire, heat, justice, and power versus the largest of the dragons, Xintoraneaux the mighty, the god of fire's own mount. So powerful was the battle between the god and the dragon that they fought for 5 long days in the heavens above Karenth. Finally the god sought to smite his foe and summoned a massive ball of gas and fire like none had seen before. When the dragon came at the god, the ball did something the god did not intend, it went critical and turned into a star. But such an action and explosion smashed into the dragon killing him and sending his body high above the planet. Both the god and dragon were dead.
As time went on, plants, fungi, and bacteria formed large colonies on the dragon's corpse and began to decompose the out shell. Now when you look up into the sky at night, you can see a large mass with spikes being lit up by the start. The mass is known as the Porcupine Moon, as it resembles a huge mad porcupine curled into a loose ball.
