Mage
Mages are important members of the communities of the Displaced and the Nethen throughout the Plane of Karenth.
Many of the leaders in the work are mages or wielders of magic in one form or another. In addition, there is a great deal of science done around the harnessing and manipulation of magic and magical entities, especially among the Nethen.
In addition to science and leaders, mages work in a number of other capacities. In the military, mages act as the heavy artillery, crowd control, and terrain manipulation as well as buffing or transmogriphying as needed. As teachers and scholars, mages teach the next generation of magic wielders and others wealthiest to know the secrets to be taught. Other mages are advisors and sages, using their knowledge to improve the capacity or performance of another by giving guidance. Other mages use their magic for construction or resource gathering.
Mages in various forms are not uncommon in the world. However, only those with the magical aptitude will ever have the chance to cast spells. That being said, Karenth is very magically tuned, and many people in the populace could learn basic magic if they had a teacher.
The Nethen mages act in all the capacities mentioned above, but almost all of the Nethen are magically tuned and taught to cast. The few who can't cast spells work as artisans and tradesman, roles just as important, and not frowned upon by wielders.
Nethen full time mages spend much of their time in research and work to harness magical energies into unique or manufactured devices. Magic is everywhere in Nethen societies, from signs to lights, weaponry, magical powered object which work much like electricity and so forth.
