Public Education
Public education in the world of Karenth is done through small school rooms throughout cities where children learn how to read and write, basic arithmetic, and the history of the world throught the hidden eyes of the Order of Eight. As the Order funds the education, the see it fit to determine what is taught. The education is funded secretly through local governements, but the Order demands a literate populace the understands the needs of the future. The city of Rora, City of does not work with the Order, but they provide a similar education for the populace that is paid for by the city.
Education is done for 3-4 hours every day with a group of students and a paid teacher.
Much of the populace finishes their education around age 10, once the can read the "classics" and do basic math such as long division, frations, multiplication, basic geometry, currency exchange, simple ledgers, etc.
Students who show promise and motivation can be appointed to the formal schools to continue their education through specific areas of study and continued liberal arts. Education paths include linguistics, science, engineering, art, writing and literature, navigation and exploration, history, research, and magic. However the path of magic is only provided to those who show the ability and affinity for magic as well as the drive and motivation to persue it. The colleges of magic are separate from the rest of the schools and often provide some of the same teachings in addition to the study of arcane magics.
People who live outside of cities in rural areas are usually taught by their families or in local get togethers.
Education to the populace of Ironholm is based on apprenticeship program as are guilds and trades throughout the known world.
