Saer Mars
Saer Mars is a Relic Chaser and past adventuring companion of Duriss Evenlock. He is a high elf rogue, thief, thug, and master adventurer. Saer's career extends over 70 years of travel through the known world, including quite a bit of exploration and cartography work that he passes back to the Reliquaria and the Archivists.
Born almost 200 years ago in the deep forests near Elenoran, Saer was constantly getting in trouble for stealing, sneaking around, and getting into all kinds of mischief. Saer's parents let their kids roam freely from a young age. Eventually Saer got caught in the city of Elenoran trying to pick the pocket of dwarf in the marketplace, and the dwarf threatened to send the kid to jail unless he came to work for him. This began a twenty year harsh apprenticeship as a member of the Elenoran Thieves Guild.
Saer started work at the guild as a serving boy and general toy for the members, often being beaten and abused. After a couple of years of this, Saer could take it no longer and stole the long dagger of a particularly nasty rogue and used it to slit the man's throat in front of the entire guild after a particullary humiliating incident. After this, the guild took new notice of young Saer and began his training in fighting, subterfuge, spying, and other related skills. Within a few years, Saer proved to be an excellent student and he was sent out to the streets to pickpockets and eventually to do cat burglary of specific desirable items from townsfolk.
Near the end of the 20 years, Saer wanted to end is agreed upon contract with the guild. The guild proposed a new offering of a lifetime membership or a hole in the forest. Again Saer's mind went crazy and he pulled the same stunt of stealing the dagger of the guild leader and killing him in front of the guild. Not realizing the implications of what he did, he was caught off guard the the applause of the entire guild as the masters face slumped into his stew. Saer was granted guild leader as was customary. His only acts as guild leader were to end his contract, name another guild leader, and pardon his name from the lists of the guild, and make himself a retired member of the guild granting himself immunity and access to their services if he ever needed them.
Saer left and returned home to a relieved family to see he was still alive. But that was short lived as the old guild master's friends came and slaughtered the family during the night, and he awoke to the horrer. Knowing what had happened led to Saer's return to the guild, from which many members of the guild attested to the disappearance of the culprits of murder, and their eventual unplanned public assassinations in the marketplace.
Shortly after this, a prior aquaintence of Saer's at the guild came to him and recruited him into the Relic Chasers where he flourishes as an adventurer.
Saer normally wears a soft leather armor, bracers, and carries a matching set of ancient magic short sword and dagger which he found among some Nethen ruins. In addition, he has a magic ring that shots out large amounts of blinding bronze glitter dust. This also explains the strange goggles Saer normally has strapped to his head but rarely wears on his eyes. They protect him from the blinding effects of the ring, and also allow him to find concealed, secret, and invisible items.
