Oh, Dirth'ela... you stand so alone there at the mouth of the Celadris. You bear the soul of our people, yet you've been stripped from those who love you so dearly. To have such a great city that once stood at the heart of our civilisation in the hands of the enemy ought to fill the hearts of all true-hearted Sehenians with pain. We will need that pain to fuel the rage that shall bring forth justice.— Neriél Gairilan, First Speaker of the Gadésia of Helendriel
The ancient and prosperous city of Dirth'ela is the capital of the
State of Dirth'ela, a small nation located mostly on the eastern banks of the
Celadris in the
Central Plain, where the river meets the
Gulf of Sorrow. It's people, the buildings, and the city's long history all tie it to their fellow
Sehenians in
Helendriel, but wars with
Cherendel have ripped the settlement and surrounding lands away from their old homeland. While the city's leaders are still
Sehenian speaking
alchen, their loyalties lie with their
human overlords in Cherendel.
Ever since the creation of this puppet government, radical politicians in Helendriel have been advocating for its incorporation back into the nation. They argue that the locals would support such an action and resist their corrupt government that only exists to serve foreign interests.
Despite its troubled history and the potential for conflict, the city has always managed to flourish. Much of its success is owed to its location. Being at the mouth of a major river and the end of a gulf, Dirth'ela lies at the crossroads of civilisations and a great centre of trade. Goods from the Central Plain,
Stone Shore and Helendriel all pass through the gates of the city and trade vessels often frequent the great trading docks.
