Our town has been built up many times throughout the course of history and the remains of what once was now lie beneath our homes. The most curious ruins are the ones that lie deepest. So much steel used in construction, miraculous materials that have remained intact while lesser things would have perished. Have we lost something along the way?— Taris Hēgauda, resident of Last Hope
The Unity of Riel was the first country on the planet of
Riel that was founded by those who had fled
Earth in search for a new home aboard the
UNS Hope. Its founding date corresponds to the year 2310 in the old Gregorian calendar, or 6592 BA in the new
Hillenistic calendar. Despite their best efforts to keep
humanity united, the Unity soon faced internal stability issues because of their government’s poor attempts at managing their primary settlement,
New Hope.
Escaping the Unity
Those fed up with the Parliament of Riel joined
Emil Hill and
Epp Kõrala, leaders of the folk who had landed on the planet first to set up a safe outpost. Their rebellious group escaped over New Hope’s walls during the first major
aberati attack on a human settlement.
Hill and Kõrala’s people wouldn’t be the last to flee from the Unity of Riel. After the aberati attack, more and more groups who dared to disagree with their leaders escaped, roaming
Lethea until they could find a safe spot to settle down. Eventually, the country that was supposed to represent all humans on the world was reduced to a small hamlet and a prime target to even greater swarms of aberati.
The country and the town of New Hope were finally destroyed in the year 2314 / 15560 BA, after a brutal battle against the indigenous guardian species that sought to wipe humans from Riel.
They had a good idea, but it never would have worked. :(
