(From the Ohno clan's Herbalism, Potions, & Magical Healing.)   Ohno Suzu discovered the cure just before Umeji Tatsuya came to Nonogawa.

Ki Disruption - Type 3

Interference in the flow of a being's ki.

Type
Magical and physical
Affected species
Humans, kitsune, tanuki, kodama, and tengu are especially susceptible. The only species immune to it are kappa and incorporeal yokai.
& slimes!**
Rarity
Rare
Cause
The spores of an almost extinct tiny mushroom called shirokasatake entering the airways of the victim.
Symptoms
For non magical beings they will feel off, like everything is wrong. The smallest issue puts them on edge. Things that would normally be easy to let go, vex the victim beyond reason. They can't sleep. Nothing is enjoyable. Depression sets in quickly, followed by an apathy that supersedes even basic survival.

For Magical beings the ki well goes dry, since the energy no longer flows through them. This is the first symptom they will notice.
Cure
None. The victim must suffer through until the spores have been broken down by the body. If the victim cannot leave the area with the spores, they will die.

The victim must be cleansed in a bath, clothes and all, by a caretaker wearing an N95 filtration unit. The caretaker must then burn their clothes and use a purifying magical fire to cleanse the room of the spores. The victim must wear a mask for 3 days to not spread the infection. In the case of severe apathy, the patient may need to be force fed or hooked up to an IV. It will take 5 days to 2 weeks for the body to fight off the fungal infection. Mortality rate is near 80%.
Slimes can leech the poison fungus from the body and air. It is an uncomfortable process for the patient, because the slime will need to be inserted into the lungs. But the effect is almost instant. **

** Added by Ohno Suzu after discovering that my semi-sapient pet slime, Chou was immune. Chou snuck into our sealed off room. I told her of the danger and she just shook an appendage at me to say no and proceeded to eat the fungus off my clothing as if it was a delicacy. She seemed a little hesitant to enter the victim's air passages to remove the toxin. But I told her what would happen if the person remained infected.

This sounds really unpleasant! I really love how you're telling the story almost entirely through the books!

I love how it is like reading a book. It sounds very uncomfortable to have a slime creep into your lungs. But if the fungus is gone afterwards it must be all worth it.

Chou continues to be weird-cute throughout :D But this sounds like a nightmare to experience.
