Lharvion

Lharvion, the Eye
Color: Dull white with black slit
  Associated Dragonmark: Detection
  Associated Plane: Xoriat
  Approximate Diameter: 1,350 miles
Approximate Mean Distance from Eberron: 125,000 miles
This moon features a 750-mile-long black chasm, and, when viewed from Eberron, the full disk of Lharvion resembles a slitted eye. Many superstitions exist about the baleful influence of this moon, and strange occurrences and calamities seem to happen when the Eye of Lharvion is full in the sky. The druids believe that children of Lharvion possess unnatural insights, and gifted diviners and researchers are often born in this month.
Lharvion is associated with superstitions and dark omens, but as a result it is also regarded as a sign of knowledge of the future, or at least those who seek it. There are legends about both Aureon and the Shadow fighting over it; some of the faithful of the Sovereign Host say that the slit in the middle of it was a scar made by the Shadow, marring the visions sought by Aureon.
More than any other moon, Lharvion reflects most the properties of its associated plane. This is the result of the storied black chasm, the Void of N’lyacnephet, a yawning, flicking black portal. No mortal has been through it, and none can say whether it leads directly to Xoriat, or to some far stranger, fouler realm beyond.
Lharvion is dominated by mind flayers, who dwell in high towers and non-Euclidean cities around the rim of the Void, or fly with fleets of nautiloid ships that orbit the moon. Other aberrations and horrors dwell on the surface or float in space, crawling and breeding in obscene numbers.
The githyanki and giff from the moon of Vult patrol around Lharvion, on bombards and allied red dragons, trying to intercept nautiloids and prevent any nefarious plans. However, despite constant reports of teeming swarms of aberrations and the fleets of nautiloids, the mind flayers do not seem inclined to wage wars or engage in conquests. They regard themselves as observers, studying the orbits of the moons and the secrets of Siberspace, and nautiloids who escape Vult’s blockade regard themselves as scholars. Of course, their science differs radically from the research of Morgrave University, and their research can be mind-bendingly horrendous. Nonetheless, despite having so much power, and absolutely possessing the power to break the blockade and conquer other moons, they have not launched out in force. Perhaps it is the knowledge that domination over the Material Plane is meaningless to them that should be most frightening, but who can know the unfathomable designs of the rulers of Lharvion?
  Adventure Hooks

  • A nautiloid has been spotted floating listlessly through Siberspace, and scattered rumors report that the entire ship and all of its inhabitants have been turned to solid gold. Treasure hunters are massing to salvage this priceless treasure; however, everyone who has ever set foot on it reappear days later on a random moon. Is this a bizarre but mostly harmless anomaly? Or is something more sinister happening?
  • One of the primary reasons Vult retains the embargo on Lharvion is to prevent the primary business of psurlons. Psurlons are allies of the mind flayers, and venture to other moons to obtain psionically controlled slaves or hosts for mind flayer tadpoles. A Vultan commander enlists the party to track down a psurlon spelljammer, rumored to have captured a noble mercane from Aryth. However, when rescued the mercane claims he has a meeting scheduled with a mind flayer potentate, to exchange information on a future catastrophe that could destroy all of Siberspace.
  • A portal to the Astral Plane has opened near Lharvion. Since normally one must venture out past Vult to reach the borders of Siberspace and reach the Astral Plane, this seems like an unmissable opportunity for the spelljammers of Eberron to reach new heights and frontiers. The first nation to reach Zarantyr got a headstart, but the first nation to reach the Astral Plane will have all the glory, and all the advantage in the next war. However, the nautiloids of Lharvion seem determined to let none pass, brutally destroying anyone who approaches the portal. However, none of their ships are entering it either. Are they preparing some secret weapon of mass destruction yet to emerge? Or are they protecting Siberspace from something beyond the portal?
