Zarantyr

Zarantyr, the Storm Moon
  Color: Pearly white
  Associated Dragonmark: Storm
  Associated plane: Kythri
  Approximate Diameter: 1,250 miles
Approximate Mean Distance from Eberron: 14,300 miles
Zarantyr is the closest moon to Eberron, and it has the greatest effect on the planet's tides. Superstition holds that there is a far greater chance of being struck by lightning when Zarantyr is full, and that bolts can fall from a clear sky. According to the druids, those born in the month of Zarantyr have a wild and tempestuous nature. Sometimes this translates to aggression, but it can also manifest as pure, unbridled energy; barbarians, fighters, sorcerers, and evokers may all feel a bond with the Storm Moon.
When one lands on Zarantyr, the pearly white clouds reveal a constantly shifting atmosphere, full of unpredictable winds and thunderstorms. The land itself is tumultuous, with earthquakes, landslides, and other natural disasters being common. Forests and grasslands seem to sprout up and die in a manner of months, and the creatures who live there are in a constant battle of evolution.
Sentient creatures here include native plasmoids, as well as a few scrappy refugees from the first forays from Eberron. Since structures are hard to maintain in such a changeable landscape, they are nomadic, and include a few tribes of giants and evokers from Ohr Kaluun, following the unpredictable patches of food and resources. A lineage of blue dragons, who are currently ruled by a great wyrm named Orizlan, hunt and wreak havoc with the storms, flowing with the chaos.
The few places of order and stability are the githzerai monasteries. Here, the githzerai begin their training in mental fortitude and imposing order, facing the trials on Zarantyr before advancing to the true challenge on the plane of Kythri itself.
  Adventure hooks:

  • As the first moon on the path to Eberron's Wildspace, establishing bases on Zarantyr is of utmost importance. Karrnath's *Blade of Siberys* is
  • willing to move on, as it believes Zarantyr is too unpredictable to be tactically sound. The Dragonhawk Initiative and the Argosy, on the other hand, are competing fiercely to negotiate with Sai'k'zalgith, the largest githzerai monastery. The Brelish want to use the monastery itself as a base, while the Aundairians want to learn the techniques necessary to construct their own stable outposts. The githzerai don't want to take sides, but even they can see the simmering aggression, and enlist the players to find a compromise that removes the githzerai from the equation.
  • A number of tribes are gathering for a feast and hunting celebration; it's a rare moment of cooperation, to share the surpluses that have been gathered. However, a greedy blue dragon threatens to take all of the food for itself. The players must rally their defenses, or hunt down a beast large enough to sate the dragons' appetite.
  • Normally the processes of Zarantyr are chaotic, but natural. Earthquakes are triggered by the moon's tectonics, wildfires are triggered by lightning, storms are triggered by atmospheric conditions. However, in a certain valley elemental spirits seem to thrive, but are currently expanding out of control and causing destruction to the landscape around the dale. Elemental binders are eager to bring a load of Khyber dragonshards to expand their supply, but a humanoid elemental creatures claims that these spirits have a right to spread and be free, that they will recede in time.
