Step closer, and let us see if the Xirath finds its way into your grasp.
Creation
The first Xirath was constructed thousands of years ago, during the Age of Arcanum. It is unclear who initially invented it, but today its schematics have spread all around the world. Over the course of multiple weeks, an enchanter infused a rare gem with the essence of the Shadowfell. This process is incredibly dangerous, as the amount of shadow magic infused into the gem is enough to kill the enchanter if they are not careful, or if the gem shatters during the process. Some gems, like sapphires, are easier to work with, while others, like a ruby, refuse the shadow magic initially, but lead to a stronger Xirath if successful. The gem is engraved with magical runes and infused with the spells, providing protection from divination. Such a gem already provides all the benefits of protection, but is highly volatile and dangerous. The slightest impact to it might cause it to crack, releasing all the infused shadow magic in a big burst, often killing anybody within a couple meters. To protect the gem, it is usually inset into a pendant or less frequently into a ring. Strong protection charms, as well as materials like dragon scales and phoenix feathers, are often used to shield the gem from any physical impact. Sometimes a drop of blood is added beneath the gem, to bind the Xirath to an individual. This makes it impossible for anybody else to benefit from the Xirath, and even enhances its protective abilities, but comes at a higher risk. Should anybody ever get in possession of such a Xirath, they can use it to track the owner, no matter where they are, or what kinds of protection they are using. It's even possible to use it to inflict spells over a vast distance on the owner. If you enjoy what I'm doing consider giving this a like, and let me know what you think about this article in the comments.
I love how its main purpose is to keep people safe, but also that it is incredibly dangerous and could kill everyone in the room if it goes wrong.
