Seek a new dawn, in Malkora!

Battle for Light

This article is a concept created during SummerCamp 2023! It is subject to changes, retcons, or may be sent to the secret vault after the event.

Something burned within my blood that I could never come to describe. It carried me, led me to victory, shaping my form from one to the next as volatile magics surged across the battlefield.   I thought I knew what I was, but in that moment I was forever altered. Fate determined I would have to learn myself anew.
— Chronicles of the Dawn: The Final Conflict
The Battle for Light was a conflict in which the last basions of Antecedent life fought against the forces which sought to destroy them and their world.

Battle Against All Odds

This battle was fought between the ancient proto-humans of Malkora who were at death's door and driven to near-extinction, and forces of Oblivion, nameless, shapeless. With no clear enemy in sight, this was a perilous and psychologically taxing war effort, supported by the blessings of the gods who had reappeared in Malkora. This conflict was a worldwide effort, spanning all regions of the world that existed in the final days of the Nameless Age, which was not many.

Renewed Hopes

These broken populations, a far cry from what the Antecedents before them used to be, were nonmagical and thought themselves defenseless as they often wasted away before their enemies had a chance to strike physical blows. In many ways, they were defenseless, though intervention from the gods brought a renewed strength and will to fight, turning the tide against a powerful foe.   This battle was humanity's formal introduction to the Pantheon of the New Age, of which Vosra, the New Dawn, was the head. The mortals who led humanity into the new age with the guidance of these gods came to be known as the Champions of the Dawn and, later became first of the Council of the Ascended.

New Roads Forward

This battle came with two outcomes: humans discover faith, and humans discover magical bloodlines. The former led them to victory against oblivion, and the latter changed their perception of humanity forever.
From Antecedent to Human
Following the Battle for Light, the Antecedents were no more. Through the strain of battle, and the free-flowing influence of magic, all who survived the conflict were irrevocably altered, to their very core. The era of modern humanity began with the end of the Nameless Age, as the world saw its first radiant dawn in millennia.   In a bid to move on to brighter futures, many connections to the past were cast aside, as humans created new lives, new empires, and new histories. The Kingdom of Arsavela was one of the first, and one of the only to consciously maintain connections to the ancient past.

New Magic
The presence of the gods came as a mixed reaction from the humans which remained in Malkora during this conflict. Many lamented the loss of magic and the peril which now held claim over their lands, and thought the gods to be a mockery of the magic they once held in their hands.   Magic was not given, they thought, but taken. Others leapt at the chance to feel magic course through their veins once more, though the divine energy affected them quite differently to the magic their ancestors were familiar with. Different, still, were the reactions of some to holy magic, where there was magical or elemental blood present.
