"Is a little bit of crunch in your skewer really such a bad thing?" "Yeah, I love the texture of my teeth being ground down with each bite I take."

Sandwing skewers are a meal often made by travelers of the Melocazh Barrens, made up of any meat one can find — which isn't very much. Common ingredients for these skewers end up being giant insects, such as the whitewing beetle or the regal scorpion, or burrowing lizards and snakes caught outside of their sandy tunnels. These are often seen as a form of "desperation food," made when rations run out, as no population in Arsavela is particularly known for eating insects, causing most travelers in the region to be repulsed by the notion.
The skewers are highly variable, as it is difficult to hunt anything in the sands; your food must often come to you, if it is to come at all. Despite the seemingly repulsive nature of this food, in the eyes of the Savelans, many who ventures into the Barrens and were forced to produce this makeshift meal reported that it wasn't quite so bad, though one should steer clear from burned beetle meat. The meat itself is, quote: "surprisingly delicious, and not as gooey as I thought it would be, but at the same time is "beyond atrocious when charred." Common opinion states that the meat of beetles in the desert should be eaten raw or warmed.
On the contrary, a char on the desert reptiles made for a crowd favorite flavor, and many who have tried the dish would suggest it. The only trouble with cooking in the Barrens, however, is the unrelenting sandstorms blowing sand into practically everything one cooks. Best not have your cooking pit exposed to the elements, lest you discover precisely why these are called sandwing skewers.Want Secrets?
