The Gold War
They're living in luxury, and what do we have? The Gold War was a conflict fought in Undmar, a civil war which caused the island to split into two separate nations, Western Undmar and Eastern Undmar, the latter of which is also known as Stykker. The war was sparked by heavy taxation on a fish known as tilbak, which caused many coastal fishing cities great financial disruption while inland cities prospered.
That's right, nothing!
Just a pile of fish we can't eat!
Eat it or sell it, we'll starve to death either way.
How fair is that, I ask you?
It's an insult. A grievous wound to the soul.
Our nation doesn't care for us working folk.
We ought to show them why they should.
A Conflict of Interest
The uprising for the Gold War began in a city now known as Gold Port, one of the largest cities in the tilbak fishing industry. When the Undmär Council introduced new tax policies which heavily impacted the exporting of tilbak, it was one of the many coastal cities to suffer for it. Riots broke out in many cities, often traveling inland to cities where the Council had the greatest presence. These riots were quelled as quickly as possible, eventually coming to violent ends. When the Council proved it would not budge, the Tilbari Resistance was formed. The Resistance handled information and devised schemes to disrupt the Council, and restore prosperity to their homes. It was essential to work discreetly, as the Council could greatly overpower any militia. In the end, many Resistance members and associates met gruesome ends, but an assassination attempt on the leader of the Council was successful and threw the Council into disarray. The Resistance took this opportunity to lay claim to the eastern half of the island of Undmär, having planted Resistance members in the council to make the push.
