This title belongs to those who teach the cipher golderune to the high-ranking members of Umbragolde, an underground guild headquartered in Aurel, in the Kingdom of Arsavela. This title is one jealously guarded, with secrecy remaining paramount. Even those who come to learn the cipher may never come to learn the identity of their tutor.
The responsibility of the Gilder is to not only teach the cipher, but identify who among the guild's ranks is worthy of being taught. The number of Gilders to be found within Umbragolde is intentionally kept a mystery, even from each other. Umbragolde's leader, Eren Mariste, will call councils of these ghost writers to meet and deliberate on their findings. She monitors gilders very closely, ensuring that they do not slip up or reveal guild secrets to lower-ranking members or even to the public.
Golderune is a difficult cipher to fully explain or understand, thus it becomes the role of the Gilders to dedicate themselves to its study, identifying every pattern and theme to be found within the golden runes, and to learn every piece of information possible about members of the guild, that they may practice creating the ciphers as addressed to each one.
As these ciphers are deeply personalized in their creation and delivery, this level of intelligence is cruicial and cannot be foregone. Eren herself hand selects these members of the guild for their traits in memory and attentiveness, and spends time carefully imparting her own knowledge upon them.
When not working on their duties as gilders, these Umbragolde guild members return to their normal lives and may even interact with other members of the guild who would have no idea that they were speaking to a Gilder. Members of Umbragolde, no matter their rank, are often pulled away from everyday activity both in life and in the guild, so it is not suspicious to disappear so frequently or have missions in which identity is kept secret.
