5.1: Heading South

Time passes strangely if at all in Rivendell, but as you continue to rest and with Gorlanc gone from these parts, the time for your party's departure has come. Edoric's caravan has elected to continue their journey via the High Pass, the most direct route back to Dale. The Dwarves give you their thanks in uncovering the plot of the nefarious Hirlinon, and they grudgingly promise not to lay hands on Mirabar. To the dismay of Eoin, Berelas decides to remain in Rivendell for now, as she continues to study among the Rangers and Elves. The way south to the Mountain Pass should be quite safe as the recent battle has driven out any other threats. From there, it should take 3-4 days to traverse the pass with laden ponies.

The way is indeed devoid of, well, pretty much everything and the days pass on in the early fall weather. Apart from the occasional wildlife, everything is quiet. Around the end of the second day the ground begins to become more hilly. Off into the sunset you see what is likely the remains of Gorlanc's fort, still smouldering some miles distant.

A small hut marks the start of the relatively recently-created Mountain Pass, where you decide the camp for the night and set out first thing in the morning.
