Stonyford

Stonyford is the southernmost settlement of the Beornings beyond the Old Forest Road. Here a stone tower once stood, and a ford to cross the river. Of the tower only a pile of stones remain, and the ford has long gone (Tales From Wilderland has more information).

The village now has a population of around 200, and serves as the primary stop between the lands of the Beornings and the people of the south.

Defences

Stonyford is surrounded by a short fence and has two gates, one in the north and one is the south. The fence is largely to protect livestock rather than to withstand any meaningful attack, and the area has been largely peaceful.

Industry & Trade

Stonyford protects the southern border of the lands of the Beornings. It serves as a key trade link, connecting Moria and Mountain Hall to the settlements in the western eaves of Mirkwood, as well as connecting the southern settlements to the Carrock and the Old Forest Road.

Guilds and Factions

The Merchant's Guild is the primary presence in Stonyford. All other residents tend to the collective fields.

History

Stonyford was originally founded towards the beginning of the Second Age by the Northmen, ancestors and distant kin of the Rohirrim. Orcs and Men attacked out of Dol Guldur, however, and the vales of Anduin were largely deserted as the Men chose to move into the forest, becoming Woodmen and founding other settlements.
The Beornings eventually expanded into the area, noting the strategic importance of the spot as a good way to protect their southern borders as well as promote trade.
