Historical Details
Background
In 493, it became clear that worshippers needed a way to pray while they weren't close to a church. Thus, the Andorian Church decreed that a uniform prayer must be formulated for all, and the writing of the first breviary began in 497 and ended three years later. This coincidence led to another decree, that the breviary is to be codified every 250 years.
Legacy
The breviary is still in use, with the current, fourth version being referred to here. Changes from the third version include the removal of the prayer section for Father's Gaze, and expansion of Mains section.
Term
Each version is valid, but the general consensus is that the most recent one is preferable. This makes the term, in that sense, 250 years.
