A displacer beast, also known as a Feycat, is a monstrous magical creature the originated in the Feywild but is present all across the Material Planes.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Displacer beasts are large cat-like creatures, somewhat resambling a panther or a puma. They have six legs and a pair of long tentacles sprouting from their shoulders. Their blue-black fur is barely reflective and absorb much of the light that shines on it.While feycats usually reach an average lenght of about 9 feet, and weight as much as 500 pounds, a rare magical mutation may cause them to reach up to twice the average size.

Additional Information

Domestication

Many humanoids and elves train feycats to act as guards for their properties or even as pets. Any form of domestication of a feycat requires to raise them almost from birth, as their hunting and cloaking instincts are already completly set few month after. Even if raised from birth, handling feycats requires extreme caution and care, as the feycat is known to stalk and kill even creatures who are larger then it.

Average Intelligence

While feycats are not very intelligent, they are more so than animals with some specimen even able to speak words from the common languages.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Displacer beasts use their innate magic to bend light, making them appear to be a foot or two from their actual positions or in some cases not apear at all. This effect however, is not considered as a form of invisibility.

Avoidance. If the displacer beast is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if it fails.   Displacement. The displacer beast projects a magical illusion that makes it appear to be standing near its actual location, causing attack rolls against it to have disadvantage. If it is hit by an attack, this trait is disrupted until the end of its next turn. This trait is also disrupted while the displacer beast is incapacitated or has a speed of 0.
