The Drake's Wind
The Drake's Wind is one of Taldirin's finer establishment. The tavern floor is known for hosting relatively unknown, yet prominent bards. Limited housing exsists on the second floor, and is often booked months in advance.
History
The building was built in 1499 and served as a pomegranate storage unit for a wealthy merchant from Navara. In 1521 the building was put to a public auction by the office of the Arch Duke of Taldir, presumably on behalf of the merchant's family, as the pomegranate business began to sour. It was sold, for 1,600 Monarchs by a local show maker who planned to use the facility as a workshop.
These plans however, did not bear fruit and the building was sold once more in 1557, with very little renovation done, to Henry Kerling, a retired Taldirian adventurer, for the measly sum of 600 Monarchs. Kerling quickly tore down most of the interior, leaving only the original facade and roof standing before opening the place as a tavern under the name of the 'Drake's Wind'.
At first, the inn mostly served as a resting spot and drinking hole for the people who live and work around the city center and the neighboring Dwarven Square. Two years after the tavern opened its doors a working kitchen was also added to the establishment.
During its years of operation the tavern became known to be a hot spot of bards and minstrels from both sides of Debye Pass. This reputation was mostly achieved through low commission fees through connections Kerling made with several noteworthy bards during his adventuring years.
In 1565 kerling officially joined as a member of The House of Taverns and was granted funds to construct a second floor to allow for accommodations. The new floor contained only 6 rooms, and was built more to stand up to the organization's code, rather than to try and compete with the city's already booming housing and lodging industry. Despite the fact the rooms gained very little to no publicity, they quickly became booked for months in advance.
