Buxton Harbor

Every corner of this city reveals beauty and liveliness. To my eyes, not an inch of this city goes to waste. Everything is used for something and there is something used for everything. The docks never rest, the shops never close, and time never lulls here. The coliseum which stands on the outskirts of the city is as grand as others claim. It's annual Tourney of Champions is well deserving to be called Austia's favorite pass time. -Traveling Merchant

Past To Present

Buxton Harbor stands on the coastline, and was not always a Austian affiliated city. Before the Northern Barbarian War, this land was the location of a barbarian tribe settlement known as Horga. The Northern Barbarian War only brought a great deal of destruction to this location, but also helped to provide Austia with the barbarians it needed for the Iron Citadel. As a result, this town was rebuilt leaving some parts of the settlement along as a monument to the tribe which once settled here. With its coastal position, the city has grown to serve as the main coastal port on the coast of Austia. It's docks are often full of trade ships and galleons traveling to the Scarred Waste or from it.

Demographics

Though racially diverse, Buxton Harbor is still rather human-centric, with the population skewing 65% human, with an almost even distribution of the remaining 35% amongst the various races of from around Orsus.

Districts

The Bayside Planks

Stone piers and wooden docks mix between each other and cover almost the entire coastline within Buxton Harbor. Recorded as the second largest Austian harbor to date, ships come and go daily, most commonly ones sailing to and from The Scarred Waste.   Docksmiths make up the majority of jobs in this district. These individuals are tasked with three things: the paperwork ships docking must fill out and account for, maintaining the docks' integrity and structure, and constructing new, more expansive piers to hold even more ships at once.   These docks are known to undergo more progress and innovation than any other part of the city.

The Gilja Horn Towers

Resting along The Bayside Planks are the fabled Gilja Horn Towers. Rising over a hundred feet into the air, small mouth pieces wind and bend down into gigantic fish mouth-shaped horns which dip slightly into the sea.   Their purpose is public, to warn against any sort of danger seaward, whether that be an incoming flood, an assault by the sea, or any other element which may threaten Buxton Harbor from the east. These towers have existed long before The Northern Barbarian War, and remained intact even after the settlement's reconstruction by Austia.   Each tower is under heavy guard, and not one person has ever heard what sound a tower might make. Not even the Gilja Patrons, who are those tasked to a single tower individually, and are in charge of blowing the tower horns in case of danger.

The Tourney Of Champions

The Midatou Coliseum is without a doubt Buxton Harbor's most famous monumental structure. Many different ceremonies are held within this monstrous building, but the event most anticipated is The Tourney of Champions, held during The Festival of Rebirth each year. Twenty contestants are admitted at the beginning, and over the week, each one participates in different competitions until only one remains at the end of the week.   The winner is crowned The Tourney Champion, paraded through the city to celebrate the end of the The Tourney of Champions and rewarded with a large sum of wealth. Today, Austians from all over the country travel to witness the splendor of their kingdom's favorite event. However, its rapid growth in fame has also brought upon cheaters, underhanded dealers, and smugglers who aid contestants unfairly for their own agendas. Contestants today risk either bribing someone else to sabotage another contestant outside of an event, and sometimes contestants will be paid to drop out entirely.

Tourney Brokers

With the ever growing appeal the tourney is gathering, it is making contestants ever more desperate to achieve that fame and glory. Originally, this began as cheating during the event, but thieves and shadowed criminals took notice of this and capitalized on it.   Nowadays, it is very rare that a contestant's equipment isn't stolen from them, or that they aren't injured in some way by brokers hired by a rival competitor. The coliseum's personnel, the Cardinal Clerics, have noticed this, but anything outside the arena is outside their jurisdiction.   Many citizens who are street-smart consider the games today to be favored for the competitor who lines the most criminals' pockets. Sometimes, competitors wealthy enough will even pay off other contestants to sabotage another or simply drop out.
