Lera

A diminutive and compassionate people haunted by a dark past, lera strive to live peacefully in their cavernous environment, or to rediscover the secrets that they lost long ago. As in the past, the lera were terrifying practitioners of dark magic, crafting shadow and blood in ways few creatures even now understand, all in service of a their patron deity Zoton.

BASIC INFORMATION

ANATOMY
Lera are short, leather-winged batfolk with large pointy ears and snouts that dwell deep within caverns in tight-knit communities. Their skin and fur tend to be similar in coloration, and are commonly black, brown, red-brown, or grey, though very rarely a lera can be entirely white. Lera eyes can be brown, red, yellow, entirely black, white, or grey. They also have long, pointed fangs.

CIVILIZATION AND CULTURE

NAMING TRADITIONS
Lera receive names at birth, bestowed upon them by either a community elder or their parents. Each name, when spoken by another lera, is said to evoke a feeling associated with the named lera’s personality, though this is completely lost on lera.   A lera can also have earned a title, if that lera has done something to warrant it. Titles are earned by overcoming great trials and struggles, and are always assigned by an elder. Titles are spoken before a lera’s given name as an honorific, and are only discarded in casual conversation   Names: Akarak, Cheop, Chirrip, Eeeee, Irn, Krikk, Myym, Pipp, Screek, Tekkatek, Tikkir   Titles: Blindwatch, Deepdelve, Fearless, Forgotten, Neverlost, Nurture, Song, Skystride, Stalwart, Waymend

CULTURE AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

Lera society is lead by a council made up of the elders in their subterranean communities. The council's duty is to guide their people, teach the young of their origin, history and culture, and to protect their peaceful way of life.   One of the greatest honors a lera can receive is to be named their community’s Defender of the Cave. Each community appoints a group of Defenders, usually the best warrior those lera have to offer, who then oversees the defense of their community.   Some lera depart on journeys throughout their caves and beyond to prove their worth as possible Defenders, taking on tasks thought impossible and doing whatever they can to help their community.

Sonic burst
You can use your action to unleash a ultrasonic burst in a 15 foot cone. Each creature in this cone must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.   On a failed save, a creature takes 1d4 thunder damage and becomes deafened until the start of your next turn. If the save is successful, the creature takes no damage and is not deafened. The damage increases to 2d4 at 5th level, 4d4 at 11th level, and 5d4 at 16th level.   You can use your Sonic burst a number of times equal to your constitution modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
