He was expected to succeed his father on the throne until his younger brother began to surpass him in achievements and merit. Losing what he viewed was his rightful birthright dealt a massive blow to his self-worth and severely damaged his relationship with the rest of his family, especially the new prince. While his brother is known for getting what he wants with words alone, Açal has to prove his worth with his martial accomplishments when leading the principalities elite forces in battle.
Early Life
Born in the twilight years of the War of the Rahyamins, the terrible civil war that tore apart the old order, Açal's first years were turbulent at best. Although he was born in the city of Ardsrath, he and his parents had to constantly remain on the road. The world seemed uncertain for the Remnant and his father, Madir, did all he could to keep his son safe from harm. Eventually they settled down in Mehal, a quiet town in southern Tathland. It was there when Madir, a respected man who had served as a captain in the Rahya army, announced the creation of a new realm, the Principality of Sabba.All I am to them is just the prince's brother. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to escape his shadow. It will haunt me to the end of my days if nothing is to change.
Inferiority
As his brother grew and matured, Açal noticed how the attention that he had once held had gone to Idril instead. Everything that his brother set his sights on Idril excelled at and soon enough, his skills in many a field surpassed his elder brother. Açal hid his frustration for years, hoping that he could catch up again and regain the attention and respect that he had lost. Unfortunately, that never happened. Instead, his rage came out eventually, and he made his hatred of Idril and his disappointment and sadness clear.Captain of the Guard
After losing the throne to his brother following their father’s death, Idril Ei Asul hoped to placate Açal by giving him some additional responsibilities that would help him find a fresh path in life for him that would keep him content. Açal was appointed as the Captain of the Principal Guard of Sabba, an elite unit that had so far mostly just served to protect the monarch from would-be assassins. Açal accepted his new role and put his dissatisfaction aside for the time being, holding what he felt in once again. A strong bond between his soldiers and him developed quickly, and he earned their love and respect, something that he had yearned for a while. In the last few years, he seems to have developed into a more content and cheerful man who holds the respect of both the men under his direct command as well as the other soldiers in the principality. A couple of advisors have expressed their concerns that Açal’s influence in the military and his popularity with the troops might pose a threat to Idril’s rule, but the prince has dismissed such fears for now.
