The Dwarves- Stoneborn
The people of the stone. It is said when the Malforged viewed the deep roads of the world that they saw in it not only the materials they desired but the opportunity for greatness. They turned their machines onto the stone and ore of the world and with grinding engines powered by fuel beyond the comprehension of man chiseled out of stone small beings of sturdy stone. Those who the machines created who were born of the hard rock and ore would become known as the Dwarves, or in the tongue of the Malforged 'Ishala', The stoneshapers.
Their masters made their bodies strong and hard, carved of living stone so that they may work in the deep places of the world mining and carving out the resources that their masters needed. While they worked diligently under the thumbs of their sometimes cruel creators the Dwarves discovered the song within the stone, a natural magic that the Malforged could not predict connecting the children of stone to the powerful beating core that resides in the essence of the stone. The Phear.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Dwarves are biped humanoids with a set of arms and legs, their skin however is extremely unique. They were a species made from stone, brought to life by powerful and mysterious technologies. Their hardened bodies are naturally resistant to damage and repellent to magic. Beneath the rock hard skin their muscles are formed of thin layers of a membranous obsidian that flexes and swells with blood.
The blood of the dwarves is universally a dark black while inside their veins which turns to a pale blue when it becomes oxidized in open air.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dwarves are able to reproduce asexually by a form of budding. When committed to an act the dwarf must prepare for several days of hard labour before beginning the budding process. The strain of this is reduced if the dwarf is near a large source of raw material or ore to assist in the budding process. If an external source of ore is used in the budding the new dwarf will take on the appearance of the ore used in the process. This process can be done in a pair of even a trio (any more than that can lead to inconsistencies) where the budding growths grow together. Offspring born of these situations are often a mix of the ore of that make up all of their parents.
Growth Rate & Stages
Dwarves reach the age of maturirty at near 35 years old and begin their decline into old age typically around their 350th birthday.
Ecology and Habitats
Dwarves prefer almost universally the warmth of the underdark. Wet weather and the cold makes their outer skin feel brittle (though it retains it's hardness a dwarf in these conditions 'feels weaker'). Beyond this water makes them nervous, for while they can swim it is much harder for them to do so and they have no natural instincts towards it like the humans or elves.
As such keeping to rich volcanic soil and the well lit places of the underdark is prefered. The Dwarves for great familial clans known as Thraigs which were begun by the Malforged to represent the finest of their slaves.
Biological Cycle
Most notably about dwarves is that as they approach old age the rock of their skin will change tint and color, if they survive into extremely old age it may even begin to crack and crumble in some spots.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Dwarves have a unique sense of touch that allows them to feel impurities in stone and metal over short distances, or locate valuable minerals through the ground. This is normally limited to a 100 foot range and is extremely inaccurate, though there have been paragons of their species who can detect specific deposits up to a kilometre away with perfect accuracy.
s
Beyond that the dwarven eyes are capable of seeing in near perfect darkness but react poorly to sudden intense flashes of light. They are particularly sensitive to white lights and the yellows of torches. Blue and red lights are much easier on their eyes, and dull purple/violets are the gentlest.
