Step 2: Creating your Realm
Now it is time to create your realm. Your realm can be any realm with any people or species. This step has no mechanics to work with, as this is to set up the storytelling and worldbuilding of your realm.
So use this time to start describing your Realm/Nation and consider:
Giving your realm a name
What is the motto of your faction?
What species inhabit your realm?
What is the name, or Demonym, of the people of your realm?
What are their core beliefs, and what do they value the most?
How is your nation governed?
Who is the leader, and how did they come to power?
Feel free to add as much detail about your realm as you like. You may wait until you have developed your domain further to describe more; however, changes can occur later in your build.
These changes can be the focus areas of creating a story. For example, how did your realm reform from a Monarchy to a Republic? This reform could occur because you, as the worldbuilder, had changed your mind, but in-world there is a whole history of events that appeared to make this happen.
The Capital
The Capital is the first settlement you build for your realm. It is the centre of your domain. It is where the government resides and, well, governs. The Capital is also the first settlement you begin with and from which you expand your realm. Firstly, give your Capital a name. Then choose a Region you have created in Step 1: Building the World, as the place for your Capital. Next, update your Realm Sheet accordingly by noting the first settlement is the Capital and the County-Region in the starting location you have chosen. Your realm begins with a Population of 5 in the Capital. Make sure to use the Settlements Table in Step 3: Ruling your Realm and update your Realm Sheet.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
