Ichor-Shakes

Overview

Ichor is a powerful alchemical reagent the color of obsidian, distilled from the blood of Abyssal Leviathans. Its unstable form is a volatile and temperamental honey-like liquid requiring airtight containers to store safely. Its stable form comes in a coarse and dense powder used in both alchemy and as a reliable explosive. Though intended primarily for use in alchemy as a binding agent, many disreputable souls across Haven instead use it as a potent performance-enhancing drug. When Ichor is ingested or introduced directly into the bloodstream, it grants a euphoric sense of power as it bestows inhuman boosts of strength, endurance, and agility.
Ichor's effects, when used sparingly, can last several hours before fading into a dull but debilitating stupor. In contrast, those who take Ichor regularly and profusely suffer a slow degradation of their fine motor skills and higher intellect. A condition further exacerbated with time and further use while withdrawal from Ichor can cause nearly as many problems in a syndrome known as the Ichor-Shakes. Ichor withdrawal acts as a perfect storm of ailments that causes many to continue their use rather than suffer through the Ichor-Shakes' dangerous and often chronic symptoms that can last for months.

Symptoms

The most prevalent and apparent symptom of the Ichor-Shakes is the unsteady tremor that gives the condition its name. These tremors can be intermittent but extreme and come alongside a weakness of strength and feeling in the extremities. The afflicted suffering such an episode will find it difficult to hold onto things and may have trouble standing or walking on their numbed feet. Additionally, many of the afflicted often complain of trouble sleeping and difficulty performing otherwise mundane ever-day tasks. Eating can become an especially challenging struggle for some as extended use of Ichor robs the afflicted of their sense of taste and deadens their sense of smell, making most food into unappetizing gruel.

Treatment

The easiest method for treating Ichor-Shakes is the continued ingestion of Ichor , carefully managed and rationed to slowly ween an afflicted off of the dangerous substance. When done correctly, individuals may find their symptoms severely reduced or disappear entirely over several weeks of treatment. Long-term users, especially those who have taken Ichor daily, may find it nearly impossible to cut the substance out of their life entirely as their body as grown entirely dependant on Ichor's enhancing properties. Among Seawatch's crime families, some individuals cannot survive without the substance after years of heavy usage with little care for its debilitating side-effects. There are some costly remedies made by Seawatch's Universities that can assist in rapid detox from Ichor, ridding the body of poisons and impurities in an often painful but rewarding process.

Seawatch's crime families have found dozens of ways to take Ichor. It can be snorted, injected, eaten, or even smoked with the appropriate equipment. Each with varying degrees of severity in their Ichor-Trance and the speed at which the drug takes effect. Ichor is most commonly consumed by snorting its course powder, which is often kept in discreet snuff boxes by criminal thugs and strong-arms across Haven. While the foolhardy prefer to use Ichor-Injectors due to their potent and fast-acting effects.

Rapid Detox

Bloodpurge Distillate is one of the few substances known to aid in the rapid detoxification from Ichor. A compound that can only be produced in a professional alchemists lab over a month of careful heating and distilling. As much as a dozen doses of common Bloodpurge powder go into making a single dose of its concentrated form, costing as much as a fine war stallion in full barding to procure.
