Saltmadness
Introduction
A suprisingly common affliction of the mind, Saltmadness plagues the afflicted's mind with visions of storms and terrific beasts. It is fairly undocumented outside of the Parched Expanse and is believed able to afflict any Sophontic species and more intelligent species of animals.
Causes
Constant exposure to the hostile environment of the Parched Expanse is the only known cause of Saltmadness and highly preventable through proper shelter and hydration.
Symptoms
Common Symptoms
- Frequent mirage-like images.
- Inability to pronounciate some words.
- Paranoia.
- Migraines.
Uncommon Symptoms
- Visions of dust storms or fires.
- Lack of feeling in extremities.
- Depressive delusions.
- Anxiety attacks.
Rare Symptoms
- Visions of massive beasts.
- Loss of feeling throughout the body.
- Suicidal tendencies.
- Psyopathic episodes.
Affected Groups
The disease shows no preference in species, gender, or body type. As the saying goes, "The Parched consumes all."
Cultural Reception
As this illness is most often found within the Greenfolk and Mohrite peoples, it is unlikely the afflicted receive proper medical care, if any at all. Despite this, within Greenfolk culture the Saltmad are often believed to be minor prophets and their ramblings often written down.
