The Emerald Baths
In the early days of dome life in Edgard, it was essential that the healthy would work long hours in order to maintain the city. Constant work to prevent the domes from collapsing was physically demanding as well as mentally exhausting, as mechanics would need to quickly problem-solve issues and find new ways to solve crisis when old materials became scarce.
Emerald Baths were an early invention in Edgard's Emerald City and served as a way for workers to de-stress in communal or solitude baths. While some have their distinct 'Old-World' look, many Emerald Baths are modernised, and some Emerald Baths have been built in other cities in Edgard as well, yet the original name has remained. Common Edgardian phrases such as 'They need a bath' or 'They've got dirt on their nose' describes someone who is very stressed out.
Purpose / Function
Emerald Baths provide comfort for the weary through the water itself and the rolling steam. Dipping into one of the baths can relax the muscles while the steam can help one to relax and embrace a soft calmness. Many Emerald Baths have numerous facilities, such as communal baths and solitude baths. Some have special rules, such as a discreet automatic card system which prevents colleagues accidentally using the same communal bath. It is taboo to discuss work in the baths, as tradition.
Tourism
Emerald Baths are free for registered citizens in Edgard, but tourists have to pay a moderate fee for entry. A couple bathhouses have created specialised facilities hoping to attract tourists such as 'Night-Glow' baths, 'Cinema' baths and even 'Party-baths' which involves a pool party and a lot of bubbles. Some Edgardians are repulsed by these ideas, and therefore these bathhouses are only available in busy commercial areas. As Dome Sickness continues to be a problem, some of these new services have promoted their facilities to the locals as an excellent method of de-stressing, especially as many modern day Edgardians still work long hours and have little time for play, despite the relative ease of maintaining the domes.
