Lunar Lovers

Summary

In ~460 ED, an Elf named Elora met a Giant named Naxto. Both smitted at first sight of another but knew their races to different to be together, they continued to embrace their love for one another in secret. Eventually, Elora's tribe discovered her affair with Naxto and wanted her banished, they led a group to exile her from the area, and send her far from her family and her lover into the wilderness she was unlikely to survive.   Upon learning of this, Naxto took Elora, but knowing if he led her tribe to the other giants then blood would likely be shed, he took her to Laku, the Dragon of Transmutation. They hoped he would be able to change them, make them of the same race so their love could be allowed to flourish.   But Laku was not himself in this time, unbeknownst to the Lovers, he had already began to fall to corruption. He looked upon the Lovers with disgust not concern, and answered their pleas with malice.   He sent them into the skies to orbit Sufera as the moons, spitefully left on different axis' so as to never meet.   However, this magical curse did not go unnoticed, another Dragon (Rinkyu, Dragon of Evocation) noticed the cruel joke Laku had played on the couple and felt pity, but not wanting to go against another Dragons wishes he could not do much. Rinkyu used his magic to move the orbit of the moons, so they may once again meet, in the stars they now occupy

Historical Basis

There is little to no evidence to support the story, as none of the living Dragons will comment on the origin of the moons. But the Elven states from which Eloras tribe would have assimilated into claim its legitimacy and hold the story close in their culture.

Variations & Mutation

Tellings of the myth change on the tellers circumstances, often changing the races of the two lovers, with Eloras becoming a more hated racial group in that area and Naxtos becoming a different mythical creature or a more positively received race.
