Cliffside

Believe it or not but this little town started off as a joke. When one of the past  kings of Avalonia got completely fed up with one bard after their abysmal performance (some people say that the performer focused his eyes mostly on the king's wife and less on the strings that he was supposed to be playing and hence it sounded more like cat screeches and less like a romantic ballad) and told him to shove his instrument to a place where the sun does not shine and jump of a cliff, he actually took it quite literally. He tossed his lute into the chasm and then went on to find the smallest cliff in the region, jumped off and composed a cheeky little poem about following the kings orders like a good soldier. 
He was fortunately smart enough to manage to follow the law but also not be dumb enough to actually try to return to the king court. Instead he settled at the cliffside (hence the name of this new settlement) and started to educate other bards and musically inclined people how to compose and perform (and also probably how to avoid the consequences of the law).
The only bard academy in the entire kingdom is currently in Cliffside and people are glad for the secluded locations and you can hear them practising miles long. Bards in training are not the people you want to be around when you have sensitive ears and some of the locals who do not care about music, but rather about the money, either use alcohol to cope or large amounts of wax and cotton to stuff their ears with.
Still Cliffside is one of the most popular places for people to visit on their travels as bards need practicing all of their skills and a lot of them include crazy parties, elaborate romance schemes and a lot of finger flexibility.
