Summary

A wind-aspected type of plant that is usually empty of any real mana until stormy weather comes by. Storm grass as a whole actually has a number of different subspecies, all adapted to various climates. There are some arguments if it is the most common type of grass in Veltrona as a result. Most breeds of storm grass tend to have long blades, stretching at most three feet high from the ground. They're normally two toned: a central strong color, and the blade edges are tinted to an opposing color. For example, the kinds in Aerthen are green primaries and red secondaries. Seed stalks grow partially before going dormant until the next storm, where they sprout in full to disperse their seeds into the winds. Their roots stretch incredibly deep into the soil, gripping the very veltron for anchor to survive turbulent weather.   For people, storms are moments of crisis to survive; for nature, they are opportunities long harnessed. Storm grass, perhaps the most of all, rely upon these violent events to survive. Fairly mundane at a glance, the grass comes alive during hard weather. Soaking up the raging wind mana, the blades glitter with light as they're violently whipped about. The more they soak up, the greater the storm grass becomes charged, attracting bolts of destructive lightning. If they're lucky enough to be hit, the surging energy shocks through the whole grass field, supercharging the plant. It is during this moment it grows the most, claiming new land, devouring competing plants, and reaching deeper into the soil.   Its a race against time to consume the energy it received as it bleeds out into the soil. When the storm passes, the ground has become enriched thanks to this 'waste' energy. Other plants then begin soaking it up earnestly, growing back against the storm grass and expanding themselves. The storm grass tries to survive until the next storm, and so the struggle continues. It is no small feat being able to take direct lightning strikes, and so people of all kinds became intrigued by the grass.   While it is not the easiest thing to work with, its aspected nature has long made storm grass useful as an intermediary. Many types of fabrics utilize it in their weaves to strengthen future magical enchanting. A number of herbal and low-complexity medicines use it directly in matters of stamina and fatigue. Home architectural utilizes it to create replaceable lightning rods. Not to mention mages and anyone else who deals in magical matters that may have a use for it. Thanks to its universality, it has a comfortable place in the tool bags of many professions and peoples.   A rustic sort of plant, popular culture usually looks over it in favor of more attention grabbing things, like flowers, fruits, berries, and so on. However, a fairly common idiom that emerges is to say one is as 'tough as grass'. Generally, to endure a tremendous, world-shattering force like lightning, if not come out from the experience stronger.
