The Chentrie Darkwood
When visiting Chentrie, there are three prominent natural features. The Eisseldon River, the western ranges, and the thick forest that spreads from the mountains' base. Locals know this forest as The Darkwood. As there are many Darkwoods in Fidira and beyond, this and most other texts refer to it as the Chentrie Darkwood in order to distinguish it from its fellows.

Geography
The Darkwood spreads south, east and northward from the western border of Chentrie, providing an extra barrier between Fidira and the duskblighted homeland of the old empire. Due to its large size, the Darkwood covers a variety of geographical features: foothills near the mountains that eventually dip into valleys. The wood's canopy is thick, blocking much light and trapping moisture that is often wrought into a mist.
Fauna & Flora
There are many woodland creatures within the Darkwood. As such, expect to see the normal suspects: deer, rodents including rabbits, squirrels and mice, small birds, wise-looking owls, foxes, wolves and turtles. The deeper parts of the Darkwood are home to owlbears, a rare and reclusive form of beastkin. The owlbears of the Darkwood are perhaps the last of their kind. The most recent recorded sighting of one was approximately eighty years ago. Owlbears are typically shy and averse to interaction with other creatures.
The more dangerous denizens of the Darkwood include giant spiders, a group of bandits primarily consisting of goblins and orcs calling themselves the Darkwood Dudes, and carnivorous plantlife. The Darkwood is thick and vast, and the source of many rumours and legends. Floral panaceas, legendary creatures and wood as hard as metal are all supposedly within its depths.
