Melgond
The melgond are ancient, and are somehow related to magic. Their origins, and their methods of creation, are lost to time.
Containers and Conduits of Magic
Though their origins are mysterious, melgond are old. Historical accounts and strategies from the early days of the Morbhaine Empire refer to the stones. Melgond are situated on leylines; routes of arcane energy that wind across the world. They retain some of this energy, storing it within them and emitting it as a glowing light. Those able to use magic can tap into the power of melgond, using the stones as conduits to enhance their abilities. The requirements for using each stone is different, however, and very little knowledge on this subject is available, even to members of the Adventurer's Guild and the Order.Stones of Destiny
Though less verifiable than their ability to store and enhance sorcery, stories of melgond throughout history emphasise a mystical quality of the stones as recorders of history. Promises and declarations made before them come true, and their light reveals truths that would otherwise remain unseen. Most often, professions of love are made before melgond, and these romances withstand considerable strain and overcome immense hurdles.Dangerous Treasures
Melgond are linked to leylines, but may be removed from their mounts and transported. This has often resulted in catastrophe. The process of removing a melgond involves chiselling away the stone at its base, and this severs the connection to the leyline the melgond is on. This is risky; if magical energy is being transferred, it can result in any number of dangerous and bizarre results. Upon safe removal of a melgond, there remains a risk of the energy inside it destabilising and combusting. Some users of magic have developed techniques to regulate, reconfigure and restabilise energy of melgond. Like techniques of tapping into the power of the stones, however, these techniques vary widely from stone to stone.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
